Pictures of the cool new bag

These are a few pictures of my new computer bag made from my favorite old polo.

This is how I did it, if you are interested:
1. I put the shirt on one last time and determined that I would no longer wear it ever again.

2. I folded the shirt in half (tail to shoulders) and put my laptop on it to determine where the side seams would go. I marked those spots with pins.

3. Then I unfolded it and sewed across the front of the shirt near where the bottom front of the new bag would be and where the bottom back would be. This is so that I could use the inside of the shirt for pockets, but keep stuff from going under the bottom of the bag.

4. Then I sewed straight down from top to seam in step 3 on each side of the collar. This is where I will store the power brick.

5. I did the same thing on the back to make pouches for cables and the cordless mouse.

6. I then refolded it and sewed the side seams. I double checked to make sure the computer would fit before I cut.

7. I cut the excess fabric off the sides, including the sleeves. These will be the handles.

8. Using the excess fabric frm step 7, I cut 2 pieces about 12x4. I folded them in half lengthwise and stitched the long side. I turned them and stitched to the bag where I wanted the handles.

That's all there is to it. I had also thought about using one of each of the kids old shirts and making them a library bag. I could stitch up the tail and cut off the sleeves and neck, then hem it up. Make and attach handles. It's a pretty versatile idea.

You are the mac-daddy, Mandy. How in the world you ever thought of that and then were able to actually bring it from your head into a real bag is beyond me. You go girl!

What a Long Strange Trip

There have been times in my life when nothing testing or trying has occurred for a long time. The past couple of years have not been like that. Just this past month, my daughter Elizabeth just turned 2. Her little life has been eventful. It all started with her. While I was still pregnant with her, the doctor discovered a mysterious cyst growing in her abdomen. He did not know what it was--he gave me 3 possibilities. He sent me to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist who also gave me the same 3 possibilities. So after ultrasounds every 2 weeks, the cyst continued to grow to be about 10 cm (yes, that's 4 inches--softball size). At 37 1/2 weeks, my doctor decided that she needed to be delivered by section because he just didn't want to take chances with the cyst. Seh was delivered fine and seemed to be completely fine, except for a bigger than normal belly. After we were released from the hospital, we went straight (and I do mean straight) to the Children's Hospital in Jackso...

On the Run

Tonight I ran for a longer time than I have ever before. As I mentioned, I have to run in the gym since it's just not a smart thing to go running on the streets at night. I started out with 5 minutes of brisk walking. Then I ran 6 laps, walked 2 laps, ran 10 laps, walked 2 laps, ran 10 laps, walked 6 laps, ran 6 laps, slowly walked 6 laps, then stretched. I'm really enjoying running. The 5K is May 17. Matt calls it "The Race." He's all about Mom winning. He was a little disappointed when he found out Dave was planning to run, too. Not sure why. So for right at this moment, I'm a bit tired. So far, no specific body part hurts. It's just a general tireness. I think I'm entitled.
