This week has been a roller coaster of illness at our house. The week started with Matt waking up about 1 am Monday. I was awakened by the sound of him throwing up beside my bed. After that all stopped, laundry started and child asleep in my bed, I go crawl in Matt's bed, only to discover that he'd thrown up in it, too. So in the dead of night I'm changing sheets so I'll have a place to sleep. Monday being a holiday, I couldn't take him to the doctor. He ran a fever a lot of the day, but didn't throw up again until...
Tuesday morning at 2:55 am, we repeat pretty much what happened the night before. Except this night, he made it all the way to our room before he threw up. After cleaning and getting him back to sleep in our bed, I tried to sleep in there, too. His congestion was so back that he was snoring. Who can get to sleep with that?! So I spend the rest of the night on the couch.
He goes to the doctor Tuesday morning. He's not got strep, but most likely a viral infection of some type that is going to have to run its course through him. We leave the office with a decongestant to help break up the drainage that's making him sick at night.
Tuesday night about an hour after he goes to bed, he wakes up sick again. Up comes the ham sandwich he ate for supper. Clean up on Aisle 3. Again. This time he goes back to bed in his own bed. We repeat this once more at 1:30 am Wednesday morning.
He feels fine during the day, just a little congested. The nighttime is when all the drainage gets out of his head and upsets his stomach. That's my Dr. Mom assessment. I'm usually right.
He hasn't thrown up since then, but he's still congested. The decongestant has done no good as far as I can tell. Maybe the Tylenol people were right--children's cold medicines are practically useless.
Dave began to feel nasty sick this week also. He's not a lot of fun to be around when he's sick, but then, who is.
Last night Lizzie started with a lovely snotty nose. Matt is always good to alert me when I need to wipe her nose. "Mama, I see snot!"
I'm feeling like I'm getting a sinus infection, but I'll wait a couple of days to see what happens. If I see that it's getting bad, I'll go get a decadron shot. That will knock me and the sinus infection for a round. I'll be awake for a couple of days and will get lots of stuff done around the house.
